Songs Game - Songs written by dirty old men

So, a contribution on the "Cheesy Love Songs" thread gave me this idea... The song was Mr. Big's "To Be With You". It goes "Hold on little girl". What are you doing Mr. Big?

Basically songs that go something like the above, or being just generally creepy /variations on the theme are accepted/.

I'll get the ball rolling:

Neil Diamond - Girl You'll Be A Woman Soon

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGvMjgLXBi0

No wonder the guy was misunderstood!

reply

[deleted]

Oh, boy. And you know it's serious when Benny Bjorn takes to the mic.

reply

I'll take it to he next level for you. This a really good band- Queens of the Stone Age
The song is Little Sister. You be the judge.

Hey, sister, are you all alone?
I'm standing out your window
Hey, little sister, can I come inside you?
I want to show you all my love
I want to be the only one
I know you like nobody ever, baby

Little sister, can't you find another way?
No more living life behind a shadow

You whisper secrets in my ear
Slowly dancing cheek to cheek
Such a sweet thing when you open up, baby
They say I'll only do you wrong
Come together 'cause I understand
Just who you really are, yeah, baby

Little sister, can't you find another way?
No more living life behind a shadow

reply

I've never paid attention to the lyrics before. I think we should involve an actual judge.

reply

Not just me then.
Is it worse than Pearl Jam Alive ?

reply

Yes, I think so. Somehow Alive doesn't feel nearly as creepy.

reply

brother/sister -creepy
mother/son/- less creepy

Interesting.
Is it because of the Mamasan Trilogy?

She said I'm ready, for you
I can't remember anything
To this very day
'Cept the look, yeah the look
Oh, you know where
Now I can't see, I just stare

reply

Oh, they're mother/son? I thought it was some other woman... lol

I still don't see it as a "dirty old man" song. Vedder isn't "creeping" on this woman. I see it as the opposite. It's still disturbing, though.

reply

I got a little OT. Imagine that. Sorry. Yeah, disturbing to say the least.

Gary Puckett and the Union Gap
Young Girl

With all the charms of a woman
You've kept the secret of your youth
You led me to believe
You're old enough
To give me Love
And now it hurts to know the truth

Who exactly does this hurt? Him ?

reply

Of course him. He was led on Dewey!

reply

This always seems to be the common justification in these songs.

"Well, she started it. What was I to do? "

reply

I've never thought of them as mother/son. What am I missing in these lyrics? hah

reply

It's about a mother who tells her son that the guy you thought was your
dad really wasn't.

One night since the son looks like his real father the mother seduced the son.
Then the guilt of the son.
This is the first song in the trilogy. Followed by "Once" and "Footsteps"

You really need to get out more Daisy.

reply

and suddenly i remember the lyrics.. but did not realize the mother seduced the son. But as I think about the lyrics its making sense. Weird. Been listening to that forever and did not notice.

reply

We're here to teach and learn Daisy.
Hope I didn't ruin the song for you.

reply

Nah, never. Did Eddie actually say that? I'm sure he wrote the lyrics, but I know he doesn't always. Not that I don't believe it. haha

reply

He did say it in an interview about 15 years ago.
There's a lot of information on it.
Here's one article.

[url]http://www.fivehorizons.com/songs/dec99/[url]

reply

I don't think its his actual sister. haha. I'm sure you don't either. I guess he's just creeping on a young girl and trying to get her to leave home or something? hmmm..I have no idea. I like that song though. Good album actually.

reply

But what if it was ?
I have another theory on what it's about but don't think I'll get into that.

It's a really good album.

reply

Don't stand so close to me - the police

Loose talk in the classroom
To hurt they try and try
Strong words in the staffroom
The accusations fly
It's no use, he sees her
He starts to shake and cough
Just like the old man in
That book by Nabokov

So like the whole, Lolita thing is mentioned. I think they actually went through with it in the song.. she wanted to but still.
Ew.

reply

I think they went through with it too. Yeah, she was a bit of an instigator.

reply

Oh, yes, the whole song is just wrong.

I'd like to think Every Breath You Take is the sequel to that one, after the girl got some sense into her. Sting is an obsessive creep, at least according to these two songs lol

reply

Nice to see you DO know some Police songs. At least two that is. ;)

reply

I also know the one about the prostitute and the one where he's corresponding via a liquid container. I'm still not fully on board with Sting and Police, though.

reply

It's Sting.

I think in this world he gets a free pass.
Kind of like Bill Cosby.

reply

Bill Cosby, ugh. Talk about a dirty old man!

reply

Pretty bad.

I had Cosby comedy albums from the 70's that I threw away.
I used to love Fat Albert.
Now it disgusts me.

reply

I'd sad how him raping all those women has ruined our lives.

That's why I don't buy all the "in the old days, such things didn't happen" crap. They did, you just didn't hear about them.

reply

How dare he ruin our lives! The nerve.

It has always happened. Like you said we just never heard about it.
Nothing is new. Everything has happened before.

reply

[deleted]

Exactly. Their ego's and celebrity were the perfect cover-up.
All fairly close to the same age too.

reply

[deleted]

I don't want to compere perversions but Savile's was so much worse.
Cosby did it to grown women who put themselves in those situations.
He took advantage of them.

Savile did this to innocent children.
He also did it for a long, long time. Many people would have to be involved for
this to last as long as it did.

reply

[deleted]

There have been so many over the years. A lot we have forgotten.

Jeffrey Jones-principal from Ferris, Gary Glitter, Rob Lowe, Stephen Collins.
The list is endless. A sick world.

reply

[deleted]

He wasn't quite like the rest but he did get arrested
for having sex with a minor.

reply

[deleted]

A lot of the laws written here have been on the books forever.
Each state is different.
If you want to see some weird stuff google strange laws
in the US.

I totally agree. It does seem worse. I actually think it IS worse
when men take advantage of children.
There was another man Jerry Sandusky. Who was a famous football coach.
He actually started a children's charity and a camp for underprivelaged
kids just so he could have his pick of kids.

Such a depressing subject that never goes away.

reply

I totally agree with you that he is a creep at least going by those two songs. Funny they were so popular, but there are alot of creeps out there. lol

reply

There are a lot of creeps, aren't there. It doesn't help that most/all of these songs are good to listen to. I tend to go more by the music than lyrics when listening to songs, so when I finally do pay attention to what they're actually saying, I get a little shock sometimes lol.

reply

This next one has always seemed creepy to me.
Even the first time I heard it when I was a kid.

Maurice Chevalier - Thank Heaven For Little Girls

Each time I see a little girl
Of five or six or seven
I can't resist a joyous urge
To smile and say
Thank heaven for little girls
For little girls get
Bigger every day
Thank heaven for little girls
They grow up in
The most delightful way.
Those little eyes
So helpless and appealing
When they were flashing
Send you crashing
Through the ceiling

reply

When you read the lyrics out of context it's seriously creepy. Even when I listen to the song, it's still creepy, though. Are _we_ the ones with dirty minds?

reply

This was written in a different time.
We have been corrupted just by being alive during the time we are.
I do think we tend to look for this kind of thing.

I also think we look for these kinds of things because they actually happen every day.

After saying all this I still don't know.
I do know it makes fell uneasy.

reply

It was a more innocent time, when Catholic priests and BBC hosts were left to their own devices...

It could be taken as something innocent, like just taking joy in seeing a child smile or something. But those lyrics are uneasy just by being about how a girls only function is to grow up to be a wife. As you said, it was written in a different time.

reply

Well said.

I will add, not only grow to be a wife but grow the object of some man's possession or plaything.
Like a painting or a toy.

Not my thing. I'll pass on this every time.

reply

Oh, sweet, innocent Dewey. Women aren't people. We're accessories and incubators, don't you know that?

reply

I keep forgetting that.
I'll do better.
Maybe I need more Crazy Bitch.

reply

George Michael - Father Figure

I will be your father figure
Put your tiny hand in mine
I will be your preacher teacher
Anything you have in mind
I will be your father figure
I have had enough of crime
I will be the one who loves you
'Til the end of time

...

And love can't lie, no
(Greet me with the eyes of a child)

...

I will be your father
I will be your preacher
I will be your daddy, whoa

Whoa indeed. Like, no, George. No.

reply

Yes this over the top.
Why are there so many ?

My Sharona- The Knack

Never gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty mind
I always get it up, for the touch of the younger kind

reply

I was saving this one, and you beat me to it lol.

It's still one of my favourite songs though.

reply

Sorry, didn't mean to steal your thunder.

reply

Well, you did, so...

Shame on you!

reply

The Rolling Stones - Brown Sugar

Brown Sugar, how come you taste so good
Brown Sugar, just like a young girl should

I can't tell if they're being sarcastic in this whole song... /or whatever you called it/

reply

I'm not sure about this one.

I've never known if this song was about slavery or heroine.
I will have to check this out.

Vehicle- Ides of March

I’m a friendly stranger in a black sedan
Won’t you hop inside my car.
I got pictures, got candy
I’m a loveable man

What about Maggie May by Rod Stewart ?
Is this OK ?

reply

I'm not sure about Brown Sugar either. I can't tell what they are going for honestly.

This one is saved by being just so damn groovy!

I think with Maggie May we might have an "Alive" situation. Since he was the victim of a filthy old woman.

reply

From what I read they were going for duel meaning.
Which means nobody's wrong.

It is a groovy song.

Not quite like Alive. She wasn't his mom or grandmother for that matter.

reply

She is still an older woman, taking advantage of a young boy. Close enough.

reply

Just making sure this wasn't a sexist thread.

What about this ?

Walk This Way- Aerosmith

I met a cheerleader, was a real young bleeder
All the times I can reminisce
Ah the best thing lovin with her sister and her cousin

reply

It is a sexist thread. But we're equal opportunity sexists. I think?

I don't even get the last bit of those lyrics. How high was Steven Tyler when he wrote that?

reply

I'm assuming VERY would be the answer.

reply

So, I played Vehicle in Spotify, and it was in the end of my playlist, and guess which song started from the automatic selection? Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon!

Coincidence? I don't think so.

reply

So it's your theory that Spotify has some sort of logarithm that will produce results
of songs written by dirty old men ?

Do you think Sting is part of this conspiracy ?

reply

If Google does it, why not Spotify? Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after me.

Sting is at the bottom of a number of conspiracies.

reply

Cause there's a red, under my bed
And there's a little yellow man in my head
And there's a true, blue, inside of me
Paranoia, need destroyer. Paranoia, they destroy ya

Good luck with that.

reply

I'm from the side of the "reds" remember?

But that's for wishing me luck. Not that I need it.

reply

I remember now.

Maybe this will put you ease.

When I come home at night
I bolt the door real tight
People call me on the phone I'm trying to avoid
Well, can the people on TV see me
Or am I just paranoid?

reply

It does.

Rockwell and I are in the same boat.
