Take note that the term "psychopath" has been badly misused for the past 50-60 years in our culture. If you read up on actual psychology, the correct term you're looking for is "sociopath." You see, a psychopath is someone who is mentally ill, but has no control over their actions. A good example would be a form of schizophrenia where the person sometimes blacks out and goes into a homicidal rage, and then has no memory of what they did afterwards. Usually it's caused by chemical imbalances in the brain and can be controlled by medication, and constant surveillance by people at a mental hospital.
Sociopaths, on the other hand, are more than aware of what they're doing, and are in complete control of their actions, but their morals are twisted to suit their ultimate goal, whatever that may be. They believe society's normal rules don't apply to them, and they don't care if it hurts others.

One of the reasons that lie detector tests are not dependable is because psychopaths can pass them easier since they don't react biologically in the way normal people do. They can lie without the physical reactions that tests detect.
