I've stopped engaging with my parents on the topic of politics. There were a few times when I just couldn't help myself and I said mean things to them, all of which were very true.
I wonder if they'll continue to defend Trump now that he's incited a riot in an attempt to violently overthrow the government.
It sounds like they are republicans who have been that way for years. Unfortunately the never-Trump repubs are too few and far between.

shareMore the latter. I think they're just in serious denial, and knee jerk defend him because he's the defacto leader of a party they've always voted for. They've convinced themselves this is the same republican party it always was. If the majority of republicans start to turn away, I feel like the spell may break, but only time will tell.
