In the meantime, they set off teargas and swung batons at the news crew, including the cameraman and field news reporter. The incident happened Monday night.

It looks like they were told to move on and didn't. That's how you clear a street, you don't say 'excuse me Sir, for the 5th time, can you please move along'.
Yep, that's how it mostly went down. They were told to clear and even though peaceful, after a bit of time, they make arrests and clear you with whatever means necessary as their job told them to. I guess the right to assemble is in question here though.
shareThey were set up off to the side doing a live newscast and finishing an interview. They had a whole mobile news crew set up. These shots take just a minute from start to finish. It wasn't an hour interview. It wasn't a bunch of kids filming on their phones. Common sense should prevail.
There was no imminent danger to them, they were not in harms way, and they had every right to be there reporting the news. No need to use hostile force.
Was this after curfew? Looks like they were clearing the whole street and he didn't back away, so a couple slammed into him and they all kind of fell over. Guess no one was seriously hurt.
