OT: Buying a new car

So I decided to finally buy a new car. The warranty just expired on my Chevy that I've had for many years, and I just don't like it. I have more than enough to afford a new car just not sure what to buy.

The big auto show is in Pittsburgh this weekend, and I got to look at all the top models for the year. I thought for sure I would like Ford the most, but I left being most impressed with Hyundai. The Elantra and Sonata look great inside and outside, but I'm going to test drive them both next week, along with a Ford Fusion and Focus.

I've driving Fords recently, but just wondering what people on here think about Hyundai.

Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ seem to consistently make the best value for the car lists.

Hyundai/Kia- check the resale value, they're not built very well.

Sadly, I can say the same about Ford and Chevy. But I'm with GMs crap.

I see what you mean though. KBB has a 2016 Elantra with only 15,000 miles valued around $10,000. A $7,000 loss in one year.

Good point, but not as bad as Hyundai. Outside the US, Hyundai's are for the most part used as service cars as it's cheaper to buy a new one than it is to fix- like disposable cars, really.

I drove a 95 Accent until the wheels just about fell off after 150,000 miles of really tough driving. Trust me, their quality has come way up......almost to Honda levels. But as you've seen, it's the depreciation that's ridiculous.

I used KBB for the Ford Fusion and it is even worse. From 2017 to 2016 model years, the Fusion lost at least $10,000.

It seems the Toyota is the best way to go in terms of holding value, but I just don't like their cars.

Why even worry about resale? If that's a concern buy used because any car you buy new you're going to lose big if you sell it.

I've bought one new car in my life and I drove it until it died. It was nice but after a few months it was just another car and it just wasn't worth it IMO. I just buy low mileage used cars now.

I understand your point, but I see no value in mky case to buy used. I mentioned those used 2016 Hyundai and Fords. While the trade in value fell by 7 to 10 grand in a year, the selling price used didn't. Also, if I buy a used car with 20,000 miles on it, at my current rate that is two years worth of mileage already gone.
