Those are great choices.

I want to add to the list:

RAN - Akira Kurosawa (Absolutely a 10/10 in my book)

The Passion of Anna - Ingmar Bergman

A movie by swedish director Thomas Alfredson: "Four Shades of Brown"

reply

I love Ran. I haven't seen the others you mentioned.

I love Paul Verhoeven's BLACK BOOK and the 4TH MAN. It is also time for me to rewatch FANNY AND ALEXANDER. I liked the more recent PHOENIX, too...though it had a major implausibility issue at it's center : (

THE STORY OF ADELE H., as well. I really liked that at one time. Someone recently recommended SENSO to me

reply

Senso is excellent.

Thanks. The stills from it look pretty grand. I've also heard Alida Valli is more effective in it than she was allowed to be in Hitchcock's THE PARADINE CASE (which is pretty much a snooze-fest....aside from her, anyway.)

Great list, by you and so many others. It would be a fine post on the Classic Film Board. Please consider posting there. I'm having a hard time finding topics of interest when they are spread out in places where they don't really seem to belong. I'd like for this board to prevail, but we need more diversity. Btw, of your list, I love almost everything you've mentioned. But I would add several more, including some from the silent era. But I'd really like to do that on the Classics Board. Please consider posting there. Or responding if I should post there about something else. You and your responders are obviously knowledgeable film people. I'd love to see where conversations such as this might lead on the Classics Board.
