Anybody seen any of these movies from the 70s?

Villian
The New Centurions
Agatha
Quintet
The Yakuza
The Amsterdam Kill
Cisco Pike
Are any of them good/really good?

The New Centurions and Cisco Pike

Are they good?

reply

well are they?

reply

the new centurions is the better movie. cisco pike is kristoferson singing most of the time.

I can finally sleep knowing you answered him.

reply

it was bothering me

I saw The New Centurions because I liked the Joseph Wambaugh novel from which the film is based. But I have no firm recollection of the movie, I saw it when it was originally released. I think I liked it.

The Yakuza, a Sydney Pollack film, I saw more recently than that, IIRC I thought it was OK but I didn't like the ending.

Do you mind if I mention the movie scenes I remember? I want to see if it coincided with the book (I never read fiction)

reply

I read the book decades ago. I wouldn't be able to recall the differences.

reply

Luckily they didn't change the titles so much in my country. ☺

Villain --> didn't watch it
The New Centurions --> didn't watch
Agatha --> waited for the huge revelation (wasn't any), for my taste boring and corny
Quintet --> little Sci-Fi-gem, always loved Paul Newman, recommended
The Yakuza --> great crime with a great Japanese actor, don't like Mitchum but that's only me
The Amsterdam Kill --> didn't watch (Mitchum)
Cisco Pike --> somewhat realistic drug movie with Kristofferson's music, liked it

I've seen Villain and The Yakuza. Didn't think too much of the first, really liked the second. I feel I must have seen The New Centurions but I don't remember any details.

reply

I've only seen Agatha, and I'd only recommend it if you love Vanessa Redgrave.

reply

Anybody else?

The Yakuza (1974) is brilliant, 10/10 from me.

Not sure how I missed this thread. This is exactly the thing I'd love to see more of.

"The New Centurions" is probably the best cop movie. 9/10

I saw "Quintet" and though I like Altman's independence, it seemed like Newman made the worst movie when working with Altman and Huston (Mackintosh Man -- according to Huston, at the time, he said it was his worst)

"The Yakuza" is a pretty good one, probably because Robert Mitchum is in it. 6-7/10
