Bruno Ganz DESERVED the Oscar for Best (Lead) Actor!

A most astounding performance. He obviously put a lot of preparation into the role of Hitler and got everything spot-on, from the accent, to the mannerisms, physicality and volatility of his character. My No.1 male perf. of the century (yes, even DDL in There Will Be Blood doesn't hold up to him).
Shame he wasn't eligible for a nomination, in a year where there were so many brilliant portrayals of real-life people (by DiCaprio, Cheadle, Foxx, Bardem).

According to the Radio Times' film critics, The Queen and Bridesmaids >>> Saving Private Ryan...

Agreed.

He did the most difficult thing possible.

He made Hitler human.

I also agree. It's the most uncanny portrayal of Hitler I've seen.

Re "human," I couldn't help but chuckle at the " Uncle Hitler" lines.

I'm with you on that. He must have won some European awards. He certainly should have cleaned up at all award programs. I don't believe he was even nominated for any American awards. I would suppose maybe the subject matter and who he played (Adolf HItler) had something to do with that. Long and short of it though is Bruno Ganz was outstanding in that role. It's also one of my fave all time acting performances.
