I think so yeah. Except Gus leaves something pleasant because of the path he's chosen. Walt leaves his chosen punishment for a better plan. But they are so similar.....first smelling their drinks before tasting it, like men of high class. Even thinking about their partners in crime before leaving. Makes them squaring off against eachother in Breaking Bad season 4 even more satisfying to watch. I am lovey-dovey it up too much. BUT AM I THOUGH? Walt responded to Skylar's cheating with abject mockery. She threw away the only connection between them (love-making) and Walt just laughs it out of the room "Screw the butcher, screw the mailman". And he simply signs the divorce papers, gets a new house pronto. But with Jesse??? Walt killed Jane, he killed Gus, he killed Mike..... And when Skylar nearly drowned in the pool, Walt.....Heisenberg called it "her little pool stunt". She was about to die and Walt is just annoyed. If that was Jesse, Walt would not stop holding him like in 213, 502 and 511. As for Flynn, he always chose Hank over Walt. Rebelled against Walt in season 1. Which led to Walt alcohol poisoning Flynn.....AND SMILING ABOUT IT. Like Walt can hear his 15-yeard old being hurt right beside him, and is like "....ha". Whereas Walt barely touches Jesse, unless Jesse touches him......then it's on. And yet afterward Walt weeps so sincerely about it (409) or he just straight up wants Jesse to finish him (204). Yet Walt was just "kinda embarassed" with Flynn after the tequila thing. They actually never wrote a scene to make the tequila thing right again. So it's really really hard for me to view Skyler and Flynn being anywhere near the same to Walt as Jesse was. Walt just isn't telling that story with them in my eyes. I don't think Vince Gilligan meant it took the entirety of season 1 for the writers to decide to keep him, I think it was almost immediately after watching Aaron in the pilot. But I do think that Vince immediately making a throwaway character SO important since episode 4 is kind of remarkable. Like, dam, Aaron was THAT good huh? He is....but still. BrBa by far. Was Sopranos ever as exciting as BrBa ? Did they ever have a scene anywhere near close as good as this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lm87QaQzuno HECK, no film has a scene anywhere near as good this one. BrBa just changed everything! With Saul trying to hit the dude with the vase, yelling at Kim on the phone and Saul trying to hurt Marion.... ....it seems to me the writers wrote the worst version of Saul possible because they are going to put him away in actual jail for the rest of his life. And they didn't want the viewers to feel bad about it. They really wanted the viewers to side with them in thinking that Saul deserves a life sentence in jail. As a matter of fact, I think this even started in "Point and Shoot" in which Saul urges Lalo to send Kim to shoot Gus. He send her out to actually kill somebody while he can safely wait with Lalo. And Lalo always came across as the type of criminal to just tie you in a chair, NOT a guy who would abuse you for fun. This on the count of the fact that he let himself get talked down by Kim in season 5. Lalo clearly respects women, so Saul was already jailworthy in "Point and Shoot" for bein such a coward. That little temporary spark was nothing compared to his multicolored world that was Saul Goodman. The main thing is that his entire world is still deep greyscaled. And that's what he deserves. People would've actually lost it if "something" restored everything in his world again. That's the kind of impact Saul definitely doesn't deserve. But If Felina is "just one episode"...in the entire series: - Nearly every iconic move Walt did in the series was Jesse-fueled. From "This is not meth" to "RUN" to "Kill Jane so that you won't lose Jesse" to "Kill Gus and his men so you won't lose Jesse" to "The 2 greatest meth cooks in America" to "Deal with nazi's, so you protect Jesse" and giving Jesse his 5 million - Walt cares more about Jesse than his own g-dam pride. He ends that little fight with Mike over the money....basically "weakens himself".....because Jesse was willing to take on the entire hazard pay and that CAN'T HAPPEN. - Jesse can crush a beaker in Walt's class (212), choke Walt but decide "give him mercy" (204), kick the crap out of Walt (409), point a gun at Walts head (412).......but he never has to actually "pay retribution" for all these crimes against the great Heisenberg's ego. On the contrary, Walt freakin cries. FREAKIN CRIES cause he hurt Jesse (410). Whereas if Mike so much as really insults Heisenberg, he freakin dead. - Always when Jesse needs it, Walt is just the sweetest pandabear he can actually be: "This is the first day, of the rest of your life" (107), "You didn't kill anybody" (213), "Let me stop you right there. You are not responsible for any of that (airplane crash). Not in any shape, way or form." (301), "I don't want a monkey, I want you."/"Your meth is good, Jesse. As good as mine." (308), "You did the only thing you could, I hope you know that." (401), Hug in a handshake (413), "Everything that had happened, happened for the best. I wouldn't have it any other way." (502), "We run this business our way, And make sure that this never happens again" 506, The intertia scene in 508.... All Saul gets is "Grow a pair" and "We're done when I say we're done" and "Why don't you take a walk Saul?". Mike gets shot. Skyler gets the entire bedroom fight ("Your little pool stunt", lol she nearly died) in 504 and that watch shoved in her face at the end. Walt beyond loves Jesse He died for him. And in the classic "There's nothing Jesse could ever do to stop Walt from loving him"-type way too. GORGEOUS. Geez, Walt specifically shielded Jesse from the bullets and debris in the room. And afterwards, while slowly dying, he throws Jesse the gun so that Jesse can choose what he needs to move on. Cause Jesse is just that important. Walt never loved anyone else this much ever. No, he had Gale (actually symbolized as a "problem dog" in the show) shot as a power move. This cause Walt could've chosen to pull the plug on the entire thing and hide with the DEA. Just like Jesse said. But no, there's no way Walt was gonna give up his everything with Jesse just to be safe. lol Disgusting Hmmm, well in BCS in “Breaking Bad” Walt already knew they had to pay 80k to Saul for the Jimmy In-n-Out scheme……and he said “It’s a starting number…” Whereas in “Better Call Saul” in BrBa, Walt and Jesse were both really taken aback when Saul said how much it all was gonna cost……to which Saul replies “Having a conscious gets expensive huh?” So clearly neither of them knew it was gonna cost 80k. Also Bob Odenkirk in “Saul Gone” was a major discrepancy to me. In BCS he played Saul with Walt as if Walt was stuck with Jimmy Mcgill instead of Goodman. Sad eyes, submissive demeanor…..desperately trying to have that time machine convo with Walt. Sadly accepting Walt’s “So you were always a loser like this” burn. But if you actually rewatch “Granite State” in BrBa, you’ll find that Walt is stuck with SAUL GOODMAN. The guy who lays out the reality of the situation hard on Walt. With spunk, attitude and talkback. Totally different. Also I find that when watching BCS, I didn’t believe Mike’s character to be very accurate to BrBa. In BrBa Mike’s attitude towards Gus was complete trust, “I know better than to ask” in “Shotgun”. But in BCS Mike is a naggy brat to Gus all the way through, even when Gus managed to kill Lalo by himself, Mike is still whining “Would you tell me next time you wanna play detective?” delete Exactly. Contrived as heck. We were waiting for it since season 1. They even promoted season 6A with the promise that Walt and Jesse would show up, after which they didn't (scammy?). But that was needed since the ratings have been tanking dramatically after season 1. So they'll be here any day now. Walt being the top meth cook in all America was exactly the kind of superiority Walt always wanted, but in all of that he managed to get someone who he could actually share his dream with. Jesse knows the real Walt, the Walt no one else is allowed to know about……..and actually loves him. - When Jesse sees the “pure glass” Walt is able to cook for the first time, he doesn’t get jealous. He immediately celebrates Walt. - Jesse doesn’t mind taking on Walt’s emotional burden in the crime world, wanting to “debrief” about having to kill Crazy 8. He listens to Walt when Walt is in despair in “4 days out”, assuring Walt is doing everything for his family - Jesse wants to be there for Walt, making sure Walt’s family gets his money……something Walt knows is rare given how evil the crime business tends to be (The show actually amplified this point by having the disappearer NOT be this trustworthy) - When they’re in trouble, Jesse is quick to try and come with workable solutions instead of just freaking out……coming up with great ones like taking out Tuco with a rock, connecting them with Saul Goodman, letting Walt know about Gus’s relationship with Hector Salamanca. - Jesse loves Walt. He is often able to deal with Walt’s aggression (Walt gets loud often) and weirdness (wanting to kill the fly for him) - Jesse REALLY loves Walt. Jesse never forgets Walt’s desperation in caring for his family nor every time Walt saved Jesse. Jesse likes Walt being a genius and a soft-spoken deep individual (The fly episode) when he can be. So even Walt goes ballistic like the fight in season 4………Jesse can’t let go of the Walt he knows is still there, the family man, the rational thinker…..the good man. Jesse is the exactly the kind of person Walt has always wanted: - Someone who makes the same moral compromises he does - Someone who wants to understand - Someone who is willing to risks it all for him - Someone who breaks purely FOR WALT (s5e02) Jesse moves the sleeve of his jacket up to find a tiny magic symbol on the inside of his left wrist glowing green. Walt checks the inside of his right wrist to find the exact same symbol glowing green. The European gang members are all leaving the shed now taking the bodies of Mike and the journalists in their cars. The gang boss still facing Walt and Jesse says "A bond this strong should never go to waste........nor unpunished." The gang boss turns to leave as well. He says "You'll be contacted were to cook from here on out.......don't disappoint me." Walt and Jesse watch the gang boss leave in his car, his goons following him suit. Walt and Jesse are left at the shed, as nighttime has turned into dawn. I WAKE UP FROM MY DREAM In the dream, when I saw the gangmembers performing a spell on Mike and lifting him up in the air......I paused the episode and excitedly called for my sibling to GET IN HERE NOW. Man Breaking Bad with magic, DOPEST. ISH. EVER. The European gang boss is now making a face like 'Hey, now that gives me an idea'. The gang boss looks at his goons with an evil smile, they smirk back at him evilly......"Whatever we do to him we're doing to you, eh?". Walt looks worried at him with a face like 'what are you getting at?'. The journalist lady and her partner are already being magic tortured just like Mike, who is dead now. The gang boss goes "Get em both inside". Walt and Jesse are now both being taken by the gang members, not to the front yard but inside the giant shed. They both struggle in vain and are thrown down lying next to each other. The European gang have now formed a circle around Walt and Jesse and they have closed the shed's door. A giant green magic circle appears under Walt and Jesse as the gang members are speaking some kind of evil latin spells. The gang boss is now saying a different spell from them in a louder tone than the rest. Walt's right arm and Jesse's left arm lift themselves up as Walt and Jesse struggle to hold their arms down. Their raised arms now stick to each other by an invisible force, palm to palm, elbow to elbow. As the gang boss continues with his spell, Walt's right arm and Jesse's left arm that are held together, light up with a green light and Walt and Jesse cry out in pain. The gang boss does a final arm movement and chant. The green light in the magic circle and Walt and Jesse's arms becomes yellow for two seconds then it all vanishes. Walt and Jesse drop down and are breathing heavily from the pain in their bodies, particularly the arm that was lifted by magic. The gang boss tells them "Now it is exactly as you have said". He looks at Walt "His pain is now also your pain" "You feel every hurt that happens to his body".......then he looks at Jesse "and vice versa". CONTINUED The European gangsters are using BLACK MAGIC that forms a circle under Mike, much like the circles in the beginning of this Final Fantasy video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m621zHBdcRk The light of the circle is blue and Mike is laid down and lifted in the air by magic. The music in the episode now has this dark horror theme going on. The gangsters are about to kill Mike in the most painful way possible, through torturous black magic!!!!! Walt, the reporter and her partner are absolutely horrified at what is taking place right in front of them. The gang boss is letting Walt know that they are doing this to Mike and are going to do this to the lady and her partner, making sure that Walt watches all of it. They plan on continuing to use Walt as their meth manufacturer, but they want him to toe the line a heck of a whole lot better from now on. THEN, a few more gang members arrive with Jesse. When Jesse arrives in their car we hear one of the gang members in the car say "Woah, looks like they started the party without us" and Jesse says "...jc" (in that breathless way Aaron Paul does so well) as he sees Mike actually being tortured with witchcraft. They arrive at the scene and the gang push Jesse to stand across from Walt waiting to be the next one to get magic tortured. Instantly Walt's attitude turns from horrified in general to panickedly desperate.....he goes "No, no, no, no, WAIT" when the gangster move Jesse forward a bit. The European gangsters are kind of shocked at the kind of tone in Walt's voice all of a sudden (perfectly heartbreaking tone Bryan Cranston does so well). "I get it alright, I understand my place, don't do this to Jesse"......the gang boss kind of makes a face like 'What why? What makes this guy any different from Mike?'. Walt continues "I need Jesse, I need him healthy and able...."*Walt kind of struggles to form words*......."You do this to Jesse, YOU DO THIS TO ME". Jesse is fearfully looking at Walt, then the gang boss. CONTINUED True. Walt’s original story was already genius, a depressed schoolteacher with a lot of heart becomes a drug manufacturer for good reason. Then they added, “oh by the way, his junkie partner becomes one of the most important people in his life…” BRILLIANT Compare that to BCS, a shady lawyer rekindles his relationship with another lawyer. They do mildly interesting cases. That should work as a sleeping pill.
