So, from my investigation and asking people on the what'sthisanime reddit, the closets anime at that time period that this could be is Devilman.
I think it canonically still happened, just that when what is her name left office, the next president just reinstated it.
I agree! The scene transitions felt at times...jarring.
I think he just had a lust for power in general and maybe there was something about her mother's power that she inherited that made her powerful.

I had the same feeling this was an interpretation of The Twilight Zone episode. I thought it was okay, but it left you with more questions than answers and at least the original you had a lot of religious backstory and stuff. The pacing of the movie indeed was VERY slow and that is what hurt it in my mind.
That is unfortunate, but the 10 episodes stand on their own in some way.
This indeed was a very well done series! I loved it more than the movie to be honest.

Agreed! It made no sense for her to call for help when she knew the only other person out there was Christopher. And the ending was confusing and left many unanswered questions.
