Nice story - however it doesn't ring true since "Fantastic Voyage" (an "A" listed effort) went into production before "Our Man Flint" (a "cheap and cheerful"). In fact the latter reused several of the sets from the first. "Fantastic Voyage" was released after "Our Man Flint" due to its heavy post production special effects. The second Flint film "In Like Flint" was only commissioned after 20th. Century saw how successful "Our Man Flint" was. Otherwise the studio might of signed James up to a multiple picture deal and then we would have had at least one more - regardless of Mr. Coburn thought. By the way that airplane interior set was created for the movie "Fate is the Hunter" (1964). Those spacesuits got more time then any NASA version at least according to: http://sayhellospaceman.blogspot.com.au/search/label/Way%20Out%20Spacesuit Both these films were "cheap and cheerful" and while "In Like Flint' was not as successful as "Our Man Flint" it still did well enough for 20th. Century Fox to want to do a third. However James Coburn didn't so that was that. "The studio aimed low and that's basically what we got." True - it was a bit of a poor man's "Moonraker" but all in all it wasn't a terrible effort - and besides it would be a tall order to top "Our Man Flint". We have all seen far far worse when it comes to "flogging a dead horse" in terms of sequels that should never have been produced. "Our Man Flint" - the movie that gave the great (prop and set) reuser Irwin Allen a run for his money: "disintegration machine"..."re-dressed prop of the reactor unit" Which was mounted on top of 'The Purification Arch' prop that was used in the "Lost in Space" tv series episodes "The Dream Monster" s02e14, "The Colonist" s02e25, and "Trip Through the Robot" s02e26. By the way they also reused the movie "Fantastic Voyage" (1966) headquarters sets - the "electro fragmentizer" was in the operating theatre and the central hall where the three scientists ran Galaxy was the location where the "Proteus" sub was miniaturized. In addition it was also the Z.O.W.I.E. computer room. Can anyone tell me why the concrete floor around the electro fragmentizer has been cut away and replaced with sand? Actually the airplane interior set from "Fate is the Hunter" appeared in "In Like Flint" (1967) starting at 00:56:05 where Flint hijacks a plane flying from Russia to Cuba so he can parachute out over the Virgin Islands.
