Yep, and it also cost significantly more and probably didn't profit nearly as much as any of those movies, if at all.. What everybody else replied so far, but also, the DCEU blew its load pretty early, putting it's trinity together in the second movie and glossing over some pretty big stories that could've been saved for future movies (Dark Knight Returns, Death of Superman, etc). They still have more stories to tell, but now everybody has a bad taste in their mouths and it's gonna take much bigger events to get them back into seats than it normally would (unless they focus on making halfway decent movies like Wonder Woman). Seems like they treated this race as a sprint and not the marathon that it is. You use the word "flooding" pretty liberally, don't you? In foreign totals, Thor 3 made 109 million in its first weekend, and then rose to 153 million its second weekend. Unless the majority of people coincidentally decided to wait until the second weekend to watch the movie, that's not front-loading. You're comparing apples and oranges; Thor 3 didn't open in at as many territories as Justice League and wouldn't be expected to make as much total money for that weekend as a result. For instance, Thor 3 hadn't opened in China for the first weekend, while Justice League has as you pointed out. You'd have to take a look at the opening weekend numbers for each country and add them together for each movie to get a more fair comparison. Looking at BoxOfficeMojo's numbers, each of the 51 territories opening weekends that are recorded for Thor actually have combined total of over 200 million, but that's by my count so feel free to add up the numbers yourself. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=intl&view=bycountry&id=marvel2017.htm Seems to me that given this more apt comparison, Justice League is actually tracking behind Thor thus far.. MARTHAAAA!!!!.... Martha won the fight.. View all replies >
