None of this matters. You people can whine all you want, but in the end, if the SW films stop making over a billion each time and "just" make Marvel money, they will be successful and turn a profit. You are basing all of this on one movie that made tons of money. That is simply not rational, even if in the end these baseless predictions come true. "No, it's why the Republicans own the White House, both houses of Congress, and the Supreme Court." Without corrupt gerrymandering, none of this would be true. "Only dumbass libtards who slept through Civics class think the popular vote has any meaning at all in a presidential election." Excuse me, moron, but you were making a comment about the will of the American people, in which case the popular vote is actually an indication of what they genuinely want. Thinking isn't really your thing, is it? "It's obvious the American people aren't buying it anymore." Yeah, that must be why most of them voted for Clinton. "Solo will drop more and episode 9 will drop even further. " Yep. And they will still be making the company money--lots of money. Again, feel free to indulge in your pathetic delusions that there is trouble afoot. Those of us with brains know better. You are free to believe whatever delusional, evidence free, adolescent fantasies you wish to believe. Meanwhile, Disney is printing money while you pretend the franchise is in trouble. "Every week they give me the numbers. Every week TLJ drops more and more, percentage wise. What does that mean?" Nothing. "''Best reviewed science fiction film of 2017 and a huge box office success'' sure.. according to whom?" According to all objective measures, if you have a rational mind. The movie was a hit, pure and simple. Numbers for the Avengers movies also dropped as time went on, but anyone with brains recognized that they were still successful. Hate on it all you want, those of you who do so are just a tiny, impotent, unimportant minority whose out of touch views are amplified by your access to the Internet, which lets you whine loudly and do not much else of significance. TLJ was a hit. The franchise is doing fine. If we lose a few fans over this movie, good riddance to them. They didn't deserve TLJ in the first place. Best reviewed science fiction film of 2017 and a huge box office success = she's doing exactly what she's been hired to do. That's because Disney is run by intelligent adults, not knuckle-dragging, crazed lunatics such as yourself. No, because the people who run Disney aren't like the idiots who post around here and understand that she is doing a great job for them. I noticed that article when it was first published and thought it was great. Critics may not understand Aronofsky for the most part, but fellow artists (mostly!) do. "Does that make sense in your mind now?" Nothing you say, however logical, will ever made sense in that racist idiot's mind. "you were saying dipshit ? 😅" Your response was as idiotic and clueless as I knew it would be. Absolutely nothing in your lazy citations said anything about the drop in ticket sales being due to Hollywood's appealing "to everyone else beside white folks." Your own sources cite streaming services and poorly done reboots and retreads as the reason. And now that I think about it, what kind of clown logic went on inside your mind to make a post about Hollywood failing when the movie whose supposed sins are going to doom the industry actually made tons of profit? Did Mommy drop you on your head a few times as an infant? You just fell on your face in a public space. Better luck next time. "and Hollywood WILL die a slow death with their pampering and sucking off to everyone else beside withe folks." You couldn't back this up with objective data if your ridiculous life depended on it. I hope everyone realizes this idiot is trolling. But from the responses it seems this is going over people's heads. “You are utterly to imagine that movie critics (who are also Academy) voters are free from influence or not motivated by politics.” Give me evidence that there was some kind of mysterious “influence” behind the critical reception she and the film got. You have none, because there is none. This entire supposition on your part is just a fantasy. Everything that contradicts your idiotic conspiracy theory is “supported” by another, deeper idiotic conspiracy theory. “The critical praise for that god awful Mother film couldn't make that more obvious.” Excuse me, cupcake, but that movie got very mixed reviews and both Paramount and Lawrence campaigned like crazy during awards season, with zero results. Which, of course, proves that you can’t just buy awards recognition. There has to be something of substance that appeals to whomever votes for the things. Again: homework and basic research aren’t your thing. “Weinstein's films were known for winning Oscars because of the money and influence he wielded in the industry. “ They were also known for being good. You keep trying to pretend this isn’t a factor, but it is. “You think Jennifer Lawrence was all over Weinstein their photographs together because he was such a nice guy and not the vicious bully everyone else claims and can obviously see.” Actresses pose with actors and producers of their material at red carpets all the time. It isn’t evidence for anything other than what is considered normal, professional behavior in that world of promotion. And she did, in fact, snap at him on several occasions for being a jerk to people. Just not when cameras were around. “And obviously the other David O. Russell films that she got Oscar nominations had nothing to do with Weinstein despite you know Russell being so close to him and Weinstein being a big backer.” Weinstein does not spend money campaigning for films he had nothing to do with which are actually in competition with his own for awards attention. You aren’t even trying to think at this point. Oh, and by the way: she got awards recognition for both Joy and American Hustle with no campaigning effort. “That the buzz you talking about is part of a campaign? “ No, it was the reception she got from critics and everyone in my office who saw the movie and couldn’t stop raving about her in it. Focusing on the Oscar campaign is just ridiculous and lazy. She also got tons of awards recognition from critics/film associations, more than any actress that year. Your opinion that it was an “average” performance is clearly in a very tiny minority. “I'm convinced the only way Jennifer Lawrence won an Oscar for that stupid movie in which she had a average performance at best in a shitty role as well as nominations for pretty average performances in average movie's after a Winter's Bone is that she agreed to do what Weinstein wanted. Only thing that makes sense.” A. Weinstein had nothing to do with any of her subsequent films and would have competed against them. You aren’t exactly fond of doing your homework, are you? B. This idiotic, evidence free conspiracy theory really tells us more about the slimy gutter your mind exists in than anything about Hollywood, frankly. "Seems fairly obvious that she slept with Harvey Weinstein (like Meryl Streep did) to get her Oscar for that lousy role that lousy film." It’s only “obvious” if your views on reality are formed without any reference to facts. And there are no facts to support this childish and outlandish claim. But there here are many which make it look just stupid as hell. Such facts as that she auditioned via Skype for director David O. Russell, who then took the footage to Weinstein and insisted that she get the part. Or the fact that she said Weinstein never approached her sexually. Or the fact that he largely only approached women who needed or wanted a boost to their careers, and at the point she got the Silver Linings role, she was already Oscar nominated and had just received two roles in big franchises (including a lead in one of the most desired roles in the decade) and needed no help whatsoever. Or such facts as that her performance was so widely praised it was predictable she was going to win pretty much every award that year, which she more or less did. I hadn’t even seen the movie that year and could tell from the buzz which way things were going to go.
