Nice Parks and Rec reference! Andy and April 4 ever. I read that Edgerton was the first choice to play Jason Clarke's FBI character (pretty big role), but he was unavailable due to a filming conflict. The movie makers still wanted Edgerton in the film, so he was cast as the head navy seal, a smaller part that began filming later than the FBI role. Nash Edgerton was also a navy seal. Clarke was great in the roll. Edgerton was wonderful, even though he had only a handful of lines. His chemistry with Chris Pratt was excellent. Pratt provided a nice humor aspect to a very serious situation. Or Costner in "13 Days". Worst Boston accent in history! Somehow Joel Edgerton, an Aussie, pulled off a decent Southie Boston accent in Black Mass. That's something almost impossible for Americans to do. If you're not an actual Bostonian (Affleck, Walhberg or Damon).....just use your own regional accent. Even Robin Williams had a forced accent in Good Will Hunting. Totally agree. He disappeared into that role. The confrontation at the hotel showed his acting chops, and he bested DiCaprio easily. Joel is one of the best actors right now....building a resume of diverse characters. He'll get an Oscar (or at least a nomination or two) in the next 5 years. Wait and see. I had to sign up on this website just to comment on this 5 year old post!! I noticed right away (after binging on many former movies) that Joel Edgerton's slight speech impediment is only in his OWN Aussie accent. He nails his American accents (even regional - hello Boston!) with no lisp, but when he's back making an Australian film, there it is. I find that SO bizarre and fascinating! I'm happy someone else noticed. View all replies >
