I don’t think the dad’s confession necessarily means that he had a relationship with a man. It could’ve been a relationship with a woman that was doomed for many reasons. Maybe she was married or Mr. Perlman was already married. Or maybe one of them had to move away and they decided to part ways. I think he just meant to say that he understood Elio’s pain.
I think you made some really interesting points. I had thought about how the wife tries really hard to please him but I hadn’t thought of the relationship with Martin’s mom. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Well that’s exactly the problem here. Scientology has destroyed many people’s lives. We are talking about child labor, sexual abuse and all kinds of crimes. You should watch going clear or Leah remini’s program if you wanna know more. The problem is not what they believe in but the crimes they commit.
Seriously, it still buffles me that she’s an active member of this cult. I hope this show will finally open her eyes
