FilmFan1983's Replies

Going through the responses so far, I'm most surprised no one has mentioned wanting a greater archive (especially since one already exists for movies at least) since that was my main draw for coming here. I downloaded the torrent, which is great, but have no knowledge on how to use it for this site. Revised that part about embedded pictures and videos on my list. Perhaps limiting the pictures to a certain size would be an effective solution. For videos, I thought they wouldn't affect these servers since they will be hosted on external sites, and I know it's possible to block incoming links on most browsers. In any case, it's not too important to me since we can simply link to Youtube or some other video hosting service. I am definitely not a fan of using any multimedia for signatures. Speaking of which, we don't have signatures either. I never used them personally, but I know a lot of people who posted on the IMDb forums did. I personally like how everything is on one page (I remember how frustrating it was having to click on multiple pages when IMD's servers were intermittent or slow), but maybe we should have an option for displaying posts on multiple pages for those who are used to IMDb. I'm beginning to agree that such a feature wouldn't be necessary at the moment. We should give this site time to grow and see what happens. However, I still think such an option would be better than leaving it up to a few moderators. Perhaps there is a way to hide the amount of dislikes until there is a sufficient amount (whatever that number may be) to flag a post. I did enjoy the emoticons and emojis. I'll revise #2 to include them. I agree. I'm a little conflicted with the dislike button because it does help curb spammy or nonsensical posts, but it can be abused. I like what Amazon does for their boards, where if a certain number of members select "unhelpful" it hides the message but doesn't delete it. A like button, however, would definitely be welcome. Great suggestion regarding the avatar. I'll add that feature to my original post. I really soured on Amazon when their kindle devices didn't support streaming apps that were already available on first generation Roku's (and just about every other network player at the time). It seemed like they weren't confident enough in their own streaming platform, even though they had millions to spend on marketing, and a big brand. They have come a long way from a company that just sold books. The company has simply gotten too big too fast, and it's bad for the consumer. The one thing I didn't like besides lack of moderation was the inability to search posts. It lacked other modern features such as the ability to embed photos or videos, or the ability to subscribe to threads or boards, but the size of the community made up for what was lacking. However, I think a site like this has the potential to be better than IMDb as long as the creator doesn't stop improving these boards after carrying over all the features we're familiar with. Another feature I've seen talked about is crossposting, which is the ability to simultaneously post on an actor and movie board. I've seen it mentioned on Hashed, and think it would be a fine addition if it can be implemented here. Just checked a movie called Mutant (Night Shadows) whose writer posted on the IMDb board. Unfortunately, it didn't make it here. I hope that there are enough people who archived the boards who just haven't discovered this site yet, who can help Jim fill out some of the gaps. I love B horror as well. That's not too bad, there seemed to be a new site popping up every hour the week IMDb made the announcement. IMDB2 was the first ones out of the gate, but it doesn't serve the same purpose as this site or tmdb.
