Simple, yet effective (spoilers)

A simple, engrossing and claustrophobic low-budget set-piece of fear.

While it’s superficially reminiscent of ‘It Follows’ and ‘The Vigil’, mostly ‘The Djinn’ reminded me of the classic ‘Amelia’ segment from Dan Curtis’ ‘Trilogy of Terror’ (1975) - David Charbonier and Justin Powell‘s film doesn’t waste a lot of time introducing it’s bad guy, it uses a confined apartment setting for an intense, single-location battle royale, and it’s carried by the performance of its lead actor. Ezra Dewey not only acts with his eyes and face, but with his elbows, wrists, feet and torso. Gusto is not the word.
