Thoughts on how they compare?

The original made the killer much more sympathetic and the victim far more atrocious.

I thought the original was vastly superior because of the profiling scene. Nothing in the remake could touch Kelly Martin‘s performance in that sequence. I also prefer the original movie’s portrayal of the killer’s family and their standard of living.
