No radios or news of the outside world

I'm sure this was more or less deliberate in how they chose to structure this series, but I thought it was weird that there was no TV or radio broadcasts or even an attempt at them. Even the more organized crews like the one in the second season didn't use walkie talkies. At the lodge where they had power they probably would have had satellite TV service which almost certainly would have been broadcasting something.

I found this series oddly compelling to watch, but I think it would have been somewhat better if it had some semblance of what was going on outside. Especially since at the series start there was enough outside organization/defense that combat planes were conducting bombing runs.
