Stargirl episode 2.8: down, but out?

This is a rhetorical question. The JSA is in shambles. The Cosmic Staff is on the Fritz. Eclipso tricked Rick into kicking the shit out of his asswipe uncle and getting arrested, tortured Beth into believing she is why her parents are getting a divorce. Yolanda has stopped being Wildcat.

But Beth—plump, sensitive, wallflower outcaste, completely vulnerable Beth—fought back and overcame the show’s most powerful antagonist yet. This was easily Beth’s finest hour to date. And kudos to the show for daring to use the “you people” epithet on Beth. They clearly trust their audience to be savvy enough to see that Stargirl is anything but racist.

It’s part of the hero’s journey that she must fall in order to rise again. All the CW superhero shows visit this trope almost every season; but Stargirl is doing it with more finesse and human connection than Flash or Arrow or Legends ever has. Color me crazy, but I feel Stargirl the show has more heart than those other shows. I enjoyed this ep a lot. How about you?
