Tyler's sentence (spoilers)

Anyone else think it was too harsh? I mean, she treated him pretty badly, breaking up with him and then blocking him. He didn't come to the party to kill her. He came to talk with her, try to win her back. But she started slapping him so he slapped back and she hit the hard floor and died. He didn't mean to kill her. I think a decent lawyer could have gotten his sentence reduced to manslaughter.
