😬 Yikes! 🙄

I watched a few (why?) episodes of this show on Netflix. The premise is fine, but the execution is, well, poor in my estimation. Amalia Williamson looks like she's ten years older than the character of Maddie that she plays. The same is true of Spencer Macpherson. Taylor West is believable as Taylor, at least to me.

Charlie Anders, played by Kathleen Robertson is the best of the lot, although I was disappointed that this supposedly "together" character is so easily manipulated by someone from her past.

As for William Baldwin, well, his "look" makes me think he's in a permanent wind tunnel, and there's something weird with his upper lip (injections of some kind??).

The character Gwen is completely annoying and considering how much trouble she gets Maddie in, I can't imagine why she doesn't just tell Gwen to get lost! Nobody needs "friends" like her.

The rescues are pretty much a joke. I found it annoying that John (Baldwin) plays macho too often by not calling for backup. Not to mention how often he criticizes the volunteers. Reminds of a few new bosses I've had who waltz in, and before even observing the situation, denigrate the people already doing the job.

Oh, and the "special effects?" Big eye-roll from me. The best part of this series is the setting. 5/10

Feel much the same way. Amalia is only 19 as well which is more of a concern because she looks rather tired and old at times.

Baldwin reminds me of someone who is in a permanent state of "just woke up" not really in keeping with someone who is super strict in regards to his job. Speaking of which how does he allow Maddie to walk around in those short shorts?!

I've been a mod on forums (volunteer) and it can be like that, the people in charge don't understand that the staff they have helping them aren't getting paid. So I wasn't too surprised to see that kind of thing on the show.

Yes, "just woke up" is a better description of Baldwin. I generally enjoy shows about first responders, but this one is pretty bad in my opinion.

I don't think they have decided what they want the show to be about yet which is part of the problem.

You're probably right. This can be true of a lot of shows. Even hit shows can take a while to figure out what works and what doesn't.

I'm late to the show and half way through season 1. So far I like the penguin the most which is not really a good sign lol.

I find Maddie nice to look at but as you mentioned she looks far too old for her character, that Gwen girl is annoying and seems like she belongs in the city rather than a coastal town. Speaking of which the town, I kind of got the impression from the blurb that the town was kind of remote/small. It seems to be pretty decent sized, when they first drive through it, it looks like a normal suburb. I think that kills it a little as I was expecting a really drastic change of environment for them.

Charlie seems to just exist as a way to tie the family back to the old town.

And why are the women always in short shorts? Not really complaining although none of them have what I would call amazing legs, it just seems funny given that everyone else wears long pants.

I think I watched about 6-7 episodes before I canceled Netflix for the summer.

I too, got the impression that Turtle Bay was supposed to be a small, remote place, but it doesn't seem that way on screen. Although, if you're moving there from Boston it must seem tiny by comparison.

Yes, the short shorts look silly most of the time. Maybe they're supposed to be some kind of teenage rebellion thing.
