What about childbirths?

The show follows this premise out for at least weeks before childbirth is even mentioned, but currently every day almost 400,000 births take place on average and about half of them are male, so what happens with them, and why did they fail to mention this important statistic in the show? Are the baby boys dying on birth, or do they die in utero, or what?
