trying out the pilot now. not 'too' impressed so far, but eh...

halfway thru the pilot. has some elements i like. i think the 'in your face' freak-show vibe is a little overdone...like they wanted to make a point or something in the first 15 minutes. 'hey check us out. we are hip, and pc, we embrace trannies and public nudity and bathroom coke breaks'. also, two separate characters in completely different scenes take a piss in the first three minutes? and a third takes a dramatic piss in public about ten minutes later. so the writers must like peeing, i guess.

anywho, may comment some more. dunno

IMO the pilot was lukewarm. but the teaser for next episode was really good, so i am gonna go ahead and watch that tomorrow. but if it ends up the trailer was false bait, then i am gonna bail.

update-- the teaser i alluded to wasnt for the next episode, it turns out. it was for the remainder fo the season, apparently. so no wonder it was so good, lol. it had the best highlights from a buncha episodes' all packed into one 60 second clip.

but yes, i did watch episode two. found it beyond boring. it was actually a drop in interest level form the pilot, which is not what i expected. i thought tension would tick upwards.

so alas, i am abandoning this series now. no more nipple rings, lezzo makeout sessions, graphic shots of peeing in public, or cranked up druggies throwing up in alleys-ways. i have seen enough. the witness girl from the first episode, and the white state cop, are by far the most interesting part of this so far. so imo it's unfortunate they spent 90% of the screen time with the Jack character who is A boring and B offputting and C has nothing to do with the dead girl other than finding the body. and the many forays into her side issues of substance abuse, thirst for p@ssy, and landlord troubles etc imo took away focus from the story, and (like i already said) bored me.

i don't want to hammer too hard on the show's producers here, but it seems that maybe this went to screen before it was fully baked. maybe it's a pet project by somebody with powers, or who has something on someone with powers. i call it a pet project because i can tell from the esoteric writing that it wasn't developed by someone who is seasoned in premium episodic TV. not that everyone has to be vince gilligan, but if you go look at just about any other series from hbo or showtime things move must faster, with snappy twists and turns and reveals. this is not done in THAT kind of engaging style.

....but i think that is due to the writers and maybe producers being intermediate/sophomore level, someone who hasn't been tried and tested yet. the fault lies with whomever oversaw this. they should've thrown a flag at the writing stage. hence, my comment on someone having something on someone, lol

this series reminds me of the series 'Justified' with tim oliphant. it was filmed and released in spite of being undercooked, due solely to some sophomore types with new power who got away with it just because they could. (including and led by elmore leonard's son, with some others who up to that point only had AD credits and had never taken lead on anything. and their first time out in the lead was with Justified, and it manifested in the series' quality)

okay, i have said enough here. signing off...
