Things I didn't Understand -Spoilers

1. What was the judge in prison for if it was never discovered he manipulated the trial?

2. If the judge's confession was to Det. Castello why would she not move on that evidence? Maybe I missed that, but I thought he gave the confession to her?

3. Why does the lawyer lady feel the need to defend Eugene? He shows absolutely no remorse for killing Adam and even wants to walk free like he is the victim. I understand his family was murdered, but he shot and killed someone too. She goes as far as saying he shouldn't go to jail. Though he wasn't trying to kill Adam, he did. So she despises the judge for thwarting justice to save his son's life, but she wants him to do the same to save the life of Eugene who she knows accidentally shot and killed a person. Seems quite hypocritical.

4. During the trial, how does the kid of all sudden realize that they didn't have gas to cook when it was off for weeks? Made no sense.
