22 year old guy doesn't know to have condoms on hand?

So much of the movie seems to whine about the poor lot black people are given. Yet very little in the movie is addressed about the poor-awful choices they were making in this movie. He was 22, she 19, sure, they can have sex. Responsibly though. Then the fathers/grandfathers think it okay to steal stuff to sell to finance the trip? Just too many excuses for poor choices.
