"If the genders were reversed..."

I notice some people tend to bring that up during their reviews. I don't get it - it's not like the movie is painting her as a good person - She's clearly in the wrong with her actions. Maybe it's the ending that upsets people? Where, despite all of her bad actions, she's right about wasted talent and not enough people in the world who truly care about art.
