Is this really controversial?

As a long-time fan of Marvel's X-Men I was always enthusiastic about the metaphors and real-world parallels that Marvel injected into that feature. The X-Men was a series that was created in 1963 and America as well as the world were still in a state of growing and defining itself with an emphasis on inclusion and fighting ignorance.

Stan Lee was very much in tune with the ills of the real world in which he lived and was very creative (in his own way) in lending his voice and his creations to speak for him. the Soapbox was a platform to communicate and connect with readers and an audience.

For all those that think that Marvel is going too Socially Aware and too Political and should just stick to escapist entertainment I believe they misunderstand just how and why Marvel became popular with so many.

With the acquisition of Fox and most of Marvel's key characters coming home, it looks like they appear ready to recommit themselves to their style of connecting ideas to consumers. Most fans of the X-Men probably became fans from the TV series animated cartoons, the X-Men run just preceding those and of course the Fox films. Those fans may be wedded to those renditions of the X-Men and those stories. Change may happen though and a reboot might both reset and reaffirm just why the X-Men were popular prior to TV and films.

It would not bother me one bit how Marvel/Disney attempts to do this if they stick to their convictions (a Stanley Martin Lieber legacy). I believe it will be well received.
