Good Lord, this was shit

I can’t listen to it any more. I was so disappointed when I first heard it. I was a huge Beatles fan and bought it on faith in the band. Back in the USSR was a great first cut . . . and then it went to shit. Dear Prudence? Rocky fucking Raccoon? Revolution Number 9? Utter crap. Dear Prudence is a gem among the turd tracks. It has fine melody and production, but it’s insufficient to save the rest of this vanity TWO DISC ego trip. They bought into their own hype that they were immortal and invincible. Plus, y’know, drugs. Lennon/McCartney is one of the GREAT pop music composer combos ever, up there with George and Ira Gershwin and Rogers and Hammerstein, but the band became too full of themselves by the time of “the signature” album. Revolver and Rubber Soul remain solid classics. Let It Be was a respectable comeback from the Baroque excesses of The White Album. But THIS album sucked diarrhea ass.
