A darker more downbeat version of But I'm A Cheerleader

It would make a great double bill with 1999 campy cult comedy both are set in Treatment center's trying to cure people from their sexuality, of course this film takes the subject matter more serious. But Cheerleader came to mind after I watched Cameron Post.

I haven't read the book so I can't say what differences there are and stuff, but this was a solid film based on a important and sad subject. It totally went agaisnt what I was expecting as I thought it was going to be half set at the treatment center then with Cameron and her two buddies she meets there running away and the second half of the film been a road movie. But pretty much the whole thing is set at the treatment center aside from time with Cameron and her lover Coley and the odd trip outside the center.

I thought this was Chloë Grace Moretz's best adult performance to date and probably her best since Hit Girl, shame this film was not given a wider release. I thought for the small time Jennifer Ehle had as Dr. Lyndia, the head of the treatment center, she left her mark as a vile nasty bully. John Gallagher Jr as her reformed brother was heartbreaking, especially two scenes one when he breaks down in front of Cameron trying to explain why Mark hurt himself and a scene at the end during a awkward breakfast. Also special praise to the other cast members who played members of the Treatment center, especially Emily Skeggs as Erin, Cameron's roommate (I can't believe she's 28 in real life, she looks only 16) and Owen Campbell as Mark, who's downfall is heartbreaking. Also Chloe has plenty of make out scenes, so they don't hold back on that. I also liked they did not add a romance between Cameron and Jane, most films would have gone down that route.

The negatives probably how underused Sasha Lane (who was awesome in American Honey) and Forrest Goodluck (from The Revenant) both are, the film could added more scenes with them. Even while a 90 minute film, it did drag in places especially near the end.

I think it's a bit better then 6.9 score on IMDB. I'd give it a 7.4. It's a film that's carried by it's performances from all the cast.
