I Wanted to Like This

It's a film with a political message that no one wants to criticize. But I didn't find it compelling as a drama. Way too much back and forth with rapid-fire, repetitive dialogue. A lot of time is spent on speeches by the group of activists, though only one or two characters are developed. Over and over we hear arguments about the indifference from government/medicine/pharma regarding the AIDS epidemic. Despite noble intentions, the movie is long and tedious. The outcome of the lead is predictable. When it finally does happen, it's done with a cold vibe (as to have restraint), which felt too distant to be moving.

** (for the noble effort, though it should be even lower)

I would direct people to the 1990 movie Longtime Companion, which covers similar territory much more effectively.
