Nice little movie about kids in survival mode (SPOILERS)

Despite that, there were things that didn't make sense. Not plot holes, yet...
- The IMDB Storyline states, "her imaginary best friend Selma...?" When was there even a hint that Selma was imaginary?
- After the kids escape the abusive druggie assholes with the motor-home trailer and bring the pregnant girl called Preggers along, also abused by the assholes, Preggers gives birth, with the two girls helping. A little far-fetched, but okay.
- Then Preggers dies from blood loss, and the baby is never fed by her. Still baby only cries occasionally, when it should be yowling to be fed. The girls take baby on a trek that lasts more than a day, yet baby survives, still only complaining occasionally. They finally leave baby in a church and run away. By this time, baby might be in a life-threatening situation, having been starved right out of the womb. Yet, there are no signs of distress. She seems to be healthy, and that made no sense and was never explained or rationalized.
- I didn't like the coldness of Jo's father after she finally meets him. He knows she's only 10 years old and just made a journey from Virginia to California. Still, he is unfazed. What a dick. Just an observation.
- Jo gives herself up to the foster care home, after an emotional conversation with her friend on the steps of the home, but the friend doesn't go in with her. I wonder now if that's the moment that the friend is imaginary. Not sure.
