why on earth did they cast Alexander Skarsgard as a german when there are loads of German actors who could have that part. The storyline was ended poorly. Very miscast.

Skarsgard was fine in the role. There is no law of nature that says an actual German has to portray a German in a film. That's why they train as actors.
