Brac attack in Croatia

Is the attack on the beach of Brac in Croatia really happened?
Since the movie mixes real events with fictional things like the 9/11 (full real) and the Columbine shootings (it wasn't Columbine but used most parts of it), it makes me confused. The Croatian attacks had any parts based on reality or was it entirely made up for the film?
