Entertaining, but last gunfight made No Sense (MILD SPOILERS)

This was one of those movies that delivered EXACTLY what I was expecting, which I suppose is some sort of achievement.

The main flaw that stood out to me: why were Valerie and Teddy fighting each other at the end? Unless I misunderstood the thread of the movie, Teddy was a GOVERNMENT INFORMANT. Who was on the run from crooked cops trying to kill him. Sure, his plan of getting locked up for protection from them is Beyond Stupid, but at the end of the movie, he's survived the attempt, and can then go back into protective custody. So why the gunbattle?

I get that they wanted a bunch of cool action setpieces, but this seems like a glaring narrative error.
To compound it, Viddick kills the crooked cop, instead of just letting her shoot Teddy. He'd get paid either way, why would he ever? To save Val's life? Unlikely.

Ah well. 7/10, entertaining and just odd enough to catch my attention.

Teddy left Valerie for dead and prefered eating a sandwitch than getting her medical attention.
