Capt. Mark is the worst captain ever!

How could he allow this constant bullying to happen? He is a disgrace. Capt. Lee would have sorted this crap straight away!

I was horrified by how Captain Mark just stood idly by while Bobby threatened Danny and behaved the way he did. Very disturbing and disappointing.

He likes his butt buddies.

Danny did things he shouldn't have, and didn't do enough of what he should have. Bobby and Bryan got on his case, but in ways that didn't indicate a professional approach.
Accountability rolls *uphill* right up to the Captains chair. He talked about Danny as "toxic" but if there is a toxic situation, he must do something affirmative to end it, rather than risk a situation that could either put people in danger or at the very least, give the Ionian Princess a reputation for less than stellar onboard service. In those sorts of elite circles, bad word of mouth can easily drive away potential charters.
I felt that the Captain saw this problem early on, thought about firing Danny and then decided that "they would be short handed." The solutions are: work the existing crew harder, bring temp deckhands aboard (like we briefly saw on the 7/19 airing), or simply find another "Danny." At most busy marinas there are people in the area who post their need for crew or availability to work a charter. And certainly there are Internet bulletin boards, as well.
And of course it bears mentioning that a lot of the stuff we saw was probably manufactured and/or edited for drama. Without a show going on, Capt. Mark (or any Captain) would have sent Danny packing, but either the guy has an unusual soft spot or the producers insisted on him staying because it made for "good television." Notice now that Danny's gone, the last episode seems to be promising bedroom hijinks and continued drama?

...and Mrs. Taylor sure seems to use a lotta ice, whenever he's away

Capt Sandy admitted in an interview that the producers have a lot of say in who gets fired or stays

reply

Um, yeah, forget bullying, how bout full out physical threats? And yet he just stood there watching Bobby go postal. Kind of shaking my head at this episode.

Did you see Captain Mark moving the passengers bags while they were all fighting below deck? Since when does the captain handle baggage?
I would love to see a commentary on that episode by Captain Lee.

You never know when you may have to jam

reply

Yes, Paisleyk, some comments/insight from Capt. Lee would be great.

Yeah.

Though he didn't blatantly say it out of professional courtesy to Capt Mark, Capt Lee's comments regarding Danny's behavior on the Tilted Kilt charter suggests he would have canned lover boy right then and there.

That would have then preempted much of the tumult that followed on subsequent charters.

Where did you hear/read Capt Lee's comments?

Books has no sound

Captain Lee is always the professional! I really wish he had been the captain on this season. I can't wait to see him back in September.

reply

Yeah, canning Danny solved ALL the problems. No more conflict cuz Danny's off the yacht. Yep, smooth sailing from here on out.

Did I type "all?"

Mark is a pathetic leader. He should have been fired, and Lee brought in. I would have loved to see Ben's reaction!

reply

Easy does it.
The Captain was not watching what we were watching. We had a better picture of life below deck than he did.
A Captain depends on his senior crew. He has enough to worry about.

.

reply

True, but Captain Mark was right there in the same room when Bobby threatened to beat Danny, and then threw Danny's stuff out of their room. He also had to have seen how frightened Julia was by Bobby's behavior, and he still didn't intervene.

What a rotten captain; allowing the inmates to run the asylum! ;-/
