Was Asriel Going To Sacrifice Lyra?

The only prior knowledge I have of this story is The Golden Compass film. Episode 8 takes us beyond the film’s narrative, and it is much darker, which I like. Asriel was very angry when Lyra found him, but relaxed drastically when he saw Roger with her. Asriel knew he needed tremendous energy to cut through the dimensions, like the energy released by cutting a child from his/her daemon. Where to find such a child? The opportunity of Lyra both tempted and tormented him. How dare the universe provide him with the instrument he needed in the form of his own daughter?! Then Roger presented himself, and Asriel had his dark solution. I think he would have sacrificed Lyra otherwise. That poor, courageous young lady has terrible taste in parents! I like her a lot.
