What did you think of the ending? SPOILER!

I thought it was okay. Stan being shot to death in '96 means he did not stage Frank's car accident in 2011. It was a real car accident. Therefore no further radio contact was necessary between him and Raimy.

Gordo's Dad being shot to death was a shocker.

Having Robbie the Nightengale pass by the house in the final scene was creepy.

reply

Was that Robbie? I thought it was Robbie's father.

I thought the episode was good, left it open in case they do decide to do a second season.

reply

It was so good and suspenseful....I hope it doesn't get cancelled. Best new show I picked up this year.

NOBODY ASKED YOU, PATRICE! -HIMYM

reply

Doesn't look like there will be a second season. They pretty much wrapped everything up with the radio being destroyed. Also the fact that it was a real car accident, not staged, so no need to continue talking to Frank.

Still doesn't explain why it's taking Robbie 20 years to wait for Julie. Frank has been dead for 5 years already.

reply

I didn't like that Frank was still dead in the present. I thought that would have changed when Reimy told him about the car accident. I also didn't like that Reimy ended up with that douchebag Daniel.

reply

I didn't like that either, never liked Daniel. I don't remember the story of how the mom introduced Daniel to Raimy but since she is not a nurse and actually a doctor in the new timeline, wouldn't that effect if she actually met Daniel and introduced him to Raimy?

reply

I thought the exact same thing. They probably wouldn't have met.

reply

Do we know how long she's been a Dr? She and Daniel were together for more than a few years I think. Maybe 5? Also its still possible for them to meet if her mothers profession changed

reply

Were we told that Stan staged Frank's original accident? I don't remember that.

Neither do I. And also, we don't know for certain that Frank isn't alive. He just isn't there at the party. Maybe everyone else there knows where he is, and if this were Raimy's normal timeline, she would know too. Also, we shouldn't assume Stan is dead. Finally, was that Gordo's dad who got shot? It happened too quickly for me to process.

reply

we don't know Gordo's father died, could have just been hurt but not dead.

can't be Robbie's dad lol, he's in prison for murder still.

as for why Robbie stopped it was because of his sister, he decided he wanted to start up again when we found out she was terminally ill. when the timeline changed and she ended up killing her, everyone knew he was the Nightingale and he went on the run and was never caught.

reply

When I saw the mom and the kids in the garage in 1996 I thought that was the point where she would finally find out Frank was talking to his future daughter. I was waiting for someone else to find out about the radio. That and I thought Frank would be alive in 2016. It was a happy ending, but could have been so much better.

Such as wasteful and rushed ending. They tried to cram way too much plot into those last 5 minutes...

reply

Gordo's dad was not at the engagement party after the '96 shooting whereas he was there before.

Plus Gordo went from being a house husband to a professional lawyer so it's assumed he got his life together in memory of walking in his dad's footsteps.

Gordo was a Lawyer at the start of the episode which would have still have been a timeline where his Father was alive.

What they really should have done is have Gordo gone from the engagement party at the end due to his family moving away after his Father was killed.

reply

I stand corrected. He was a lawyer even before his father was shot in '96.

What doesn't make sense is why he was a house husband when his mother was killed originally then became a lawyer when she stayed alive.

reply

I don't think Gordo's mom was ever killed.

a doctor could work in the same hospital as a nurse, why wouldn't they have still met? only difference is that she was the doctor who took care of Daniel instead of the nurse that did the same thing.

Frank did tell his wife that it was their daughter in the future or tried to earlier this season, but then Raimy never spoke on the other end.

I assume since they heard the voice at the end she would know it was Raimy in the future. and since her mom is back, it could be something they talk about since the mom would remember that now.

reply

Sure they could have still met, but things would have been drastically different nonetheless. The fact that Reimy's relationship with the dbag pretty much went back to what it did before when so much in the timeline changed is beyond ridiculous.

reply

If Frank is alive, there's no need for a second season since Raimy got what she wanted. They would obviously show Frank at the engagement party if he were still alive.

Otherwise the second season would just be a modern day version of Frank and Raimy catching the Nightingale, with no need for a time travel aspect, which is the point of the show.

reply

We see at the end Robbie is outside the house stocking.

I could see season two starting at the very night of the party and Frank comes walking in late apologizing to everyone. One big happy family.
Then we see Robbie planning to kill the mother which he accomplishes. To fix this Frank and his daughter restore the radio to contact the earlier Frank so they can work with him on trying to cut the tree off at the trunk by taking out Robbie at an earlier time. Frank dealing with his younger self my proof funny at times.
Or you could have it at Frank did die in the accident five years earlier and it was Remy alone who fixes the radio to contact her father to accomplish the same thing above .

reply

Raimy mentioned it may have been a setup and Stan may have been behind it. At least the next(last) 15 years of Frank's life won't be dealing with Stan and his garbage.

Since the show is in real time 20 years parallel, there's nothing Raimy can do until 2031 to stop Frank's 2011 accident when it actually happens. Otherwise, they'Re waiting around for the next 15 years.

Besides, Robby the Nightengale doesn't potentially attack Julie till the present day or the future, so there's no need for the radio anymore.

reply

I thought it was decent ending, but it felt like they were taking their sweet time in the first half with everything, then crammed everything of importance into the last 5/10 minutes. It's an ending, but it doesn't feel like it's finished and that everything's going to be okay, you know?

Frank now knows that he's going to die in a car crash in 2011, should we assume that he'll bare that in mind and be extra vigilant and super careful on the roads throughout the duration of that year? It REALLY would have been nice to see Raimy sit down between her mum and Daniel, then have her dad casually stroll into the room as if he'd just gone to the bathroom or to get another drink, smile down at her and have her leap up to hug him.

I legitimately thought Stan was enough of a dirty b@s tard slimeball to either deliberately take his time in heading over to Frank and Julie's place, or just not go at all, but the fact that he rushed out to go with Frank desperately screaming at him down the phone showed that MAYBE he could have been a better person. I realize that he's a cop and that Robbie was a serial killer that needed to be locked up, but throughout the season he was depicted as a real scumbag who cared about nothing other than making sure he didn't get caught, so you kinda have to wonder if after his talk with Frank, it could have been a turning point for him.

If this really is a one and done season, why would they have adult Robbie skulking around, casing Julie and Raimy's house and making it obvious to the viewers that he's going to try and either get Julie again, or go for Raimy? If they really wanted to wrap things up properly, they should have added an extra episode or even 10 or 15 minutes so that adult Robbie could be caught and thrown in jail, or have Raimy put a bullet in him *or hell, make it like the movie and have Frank turn up and put a bullet in Robbie before he can kill Raimy* With him still around, it doesn't feel finished or like a satisfactory ending, which is a shame as I love this show.

reply

The ending didn't make sense. Since Megan died in 1996, Raimy would not have met her nor Robbie. (She only has fake memories) Robbie would not have met Julie in the hospital taking care of Megan. And since they knew in 1996 that Robbie was the Nightingale, they should have caught him in 20 years.

reply

In '96, Megan and Robbie both stayed at the Sullivan house for an afternoon. That's how he got the spare key to the house and attempted to abduct Julie.

reply

My biggest frustration with this show is how easy it would be for Frank to be alive if Raimy would just tell him not to leave the house on the day he's supposed to die in a car crash. I get that this is supposed to be a staged accident, but it would be a whole lot less effort to foil than the nightingale.

I get she doesn't do this towards the beginning of the series because she's mad at him, but think how useful he would have been talking to himself to track down her mum's killer in both timelines.

They have a conversation about his crash and she doesn't even mention when it was so he could avoid it, "Dad, btw, on this date, don't leave the house if you don't want to die." Why!?! Are they really that dumb that it doesn't occur to them a single line of conversation could save his life, she's got her mum back but she doesn't give two hoots about him.

The end of the series was too blatantly fishing for a second season where (for me) it could have been an awesome happy ending and a satisfying conclusion for the entire family to be back together. Instead we're left with an ending where the radio is destroyed and the nightingale pacing up and down outside their house, how is that anything but a non-ending?

Let's see if Netflix rescues a second series and they have lightening strike a walkie talkie so she can carry on talking and maybe, just maybe, Raimy the heartless will mention to her dad how to save himself.

reply

In fact arguably they're worse off than when we met them at the start of the series, dad's still dead, neighbours dad is probably dead, and now the nightingale has a grudge against the family.

They totally squandered the opportunity the radio gave them (and they don't even mention winning lottery numbers, or investing in Yahoo like in the film).

Because it's fishing for a second series in that ending, the entire first series might as well be written off as a big waste of time. You may as well skip it?

reply

Me thinks you should have paid more attention, or watch it twice. The one who stalked Julie was Robbie, and since his mother worked in the hospital where she did, they did not meet through Megan.

Second off, he was Carter Benson. His father helped him to escape once,he could have done it again. He stood outside the house, because his target was now Raimy, whose voice he heard through the radio.

The police only knew that as Nightingale he stopped, but it's possible due to having a new target, he also has new victims the police did not connect yet.

I live in the Gordius Apartment Complex, my interior designer was M.C. Escher.

reply

right just because you know who the guy is he can go in hiding and escape for 20 years, it's possible if he's stopped, probably changed his identity, etc.

and yes Raimy told her dad early on that he died in a car crash later, after she initially saved his life. she did mention in the last episode about how he dies and then he said he had everything and didn't care about that.

the thing is in Frank's original time line there is still what another 10 or 20 years before he's supposed to die in the car crash. it's still too far out at that point. when he died from shooting that was less than a week before it actually happened.
