Criminally underrated

Sure, some aspect could have been done better, but this had some real gems. The social commentary was spot on in some points (A Corman version of Idiocracy, for sure), and some of the effects were surprisingly good. I also enjoyed the music (not the "Drive kill" obvious nonsense, but the soundtrack was great)

Bottom line, I enjoyed it. It was over-the-top and imperfect. If you want a bland movie with a billion dollar budget, this isn't for you. I've seen Michael Bay movies that were less enjoyable and made less sense than this movie.

Agreed! So many people are missing the point!

Totally agree!

I genuinely thought this was going to one of those "Just kidding" posts.

Have to say you put forward a better defense for the film that I thought possible. I still thought it was terrible, but I get some of your points. Still better than that recent Mad Max that's all I'll say 🚙🚐🚗

I enjoyed it too. I much more appreciated going back to a super campy, low budget style. Those attempts at slick action movies from the 2000's suck.

"God Damn, dipsh!t Rodriguez, gypsy dildo...PUNKS!"

I love trashiness and the silliness. Very sardonic and satirical. Quite honestly, I'm not surprised a lot of people trashed the film. The overtly slick, over the top Hollywood productions have killed the wondeful cheap thrill sleaze action films.

you could also say the persons not getting the movie are quite the pictured populace of Idiocy or Death Race 2050

reply

It took the movie about 1 minute until i knew it was gonna be awesome to the end.

MegaRace Reboot is coming after 20 years, and will have Lance Boyle in it.
MegaRace and Carmageddon was inspired by Death Race 2000.

It wasn't perfect but it's also not far off from the original (from what I remember) The acting wasn't as good, and the effects were even worse somehow at times, but the social commentary was actually pretty funny, and more of it worked than didn't work. I wouldn't give it a 10/10, but it's certainly better than the 3.4 it currently has.

PS: you weren't supposed to like the drive/kill song. The point was that it's lazy and repetitive, it was another jab at the current state of things.

Not a masterpiece but definitely enjoyable to watch

Agreed! The movie had its weak points, but it was an enjoyable watch. The people that didn't like this are probably the same people that thought apartment 1303 or the cloth was great.

reply

Yup - 30 mins in and I'm having a blast. It has all the energy and wit of the original, same cheesy effects, some excellent new gags and more black humour, and is everything you'd want in a reboot of the hokey original. Loved the original, am loving this.
