very disappointing

Is it just me? This has great critic and audience ratings on RT and IMDB but I found it not very funny (especially the stand-up comics!--was it supposed to be funny that they were so unfunny?), treacly, and predictable. In the beginning I was put off by the sugary and shallow nature of the romance and at 15' in I was wondering whether to go on with it, but decided that though it may not be very funny perhaps there would be a payoff in the family dramas, but all we get is a Love Story redux with a happy ending. Anyway, if the movie was accurate in caricature, I really can't root for the main character's choice of a sickly, bitchy white girl (who way over-reacted to the pics his family gave him of the Pakistani girls they were trying to match him with) instead of some of the arranged matches attempted by his family, especially that last very hot-looking girl!

I felt the relationship was shallow also. When she runs back into his arms at the end of the movie after having treated him like garbage.... and then he accepts her ? That put me off the whole movie.

The whole story seemed like it was going nowhere other than, he's involved with a girl with serious commitment issues. She seems to get over her commitment issues, out of nowhere, randomly. Seemingly after watching 1 youtube video of him. Then, in the worst moment I've seen in any movie in a long time, he takes her back (after she stalks him to his standup show). Everything about it just gave me a bad taste in my mouth.

It just felt empty, soulless, and as if the story was going around in a circle, going nowhere. One of the worst "romantic comedies", if you can call it that, I have ever seen. I felt absolutely nothing for the characters in their utterly hollow existences.

We're shocked that Kumail portrays a character with no backbone?
