Anyone Surprised This is On a Major Network?

I really liked the first episode, but I thought the show was pretty graphic and much darker with religion than other shows are. I really liked it though. I hope it makes it.

I was surprised how good it was.

I know what OP means. Not so much graphic and gross but dark. Just the overall tone. It's something I would expect to see on FX or AMC.

Yes, I am pleasantly surprised that you can still show movies with Christian worldview!

Hollywood has always had a fairly favorable stance towards Catholicism. Much of Hollywood's contempt for Christianity is reserved for Protestantism, which has been the religion of choice for the "deplorables" of American history. In fact, Catholics weren't viewed all that favorably until several decades ago; John F. Kennedy's Catholicism was an issue during the 1960 election. Even the KKK were anti-Catholic in addition to everything else they were.

Catholics, on the other hand, are portrayed almost like warriors, like a "Thin White Line" that protects the world from ultimate evil. The highly institutionalized and ritualistic nature of Catholicism lends to the mythos that Hollywood has created for the Roman Catholic Church.

Personally, I find it ironic, given that Protestants emerged due in part to the corrupt nature of the Catholic Church. What goes around, comes around, I guess.
