Clarinet Soundtrack

I've just watched this again as part of Hallmark's "Christmas in July". I still maintain that this movie is one of Hallmark's all-time best, Christmas or not.

As much as I love this movie, I still have to ask: why is the CLARINET so prominent in the movie's soundtrack? I notice this every time I watch the movie, where it sounds like a clarinet concerto is continuously playing in the background. Did the soundtrack composer simply have a special love for this instrument?
