Darkness

Why is this show so goddamn dark? like literally. I cant see shit on the screen, its all soooo dark. Where are the lights? Whoever made the decision to up the contrast to 10000 and not use set-lighting, should be fired. I understand you want to be tonally darker, but you can hardly see anything on the bridge.

Yea I noticed that too. Like they only use hard light and imply its from the exterior. Only the shuttle bay looks like it has good lighting. Every where else is probably an OSHA violation.

Its so frustrating. I always love all the little details in sci-fi movies and series. And when you have a star ship, you just want to see everything and everyone. The camera is also always so move-y. Like there aren't good stable wide shots to take everything in. Its all dark and shaky cam. I hate it

They like to use telescoping panning movements to make every thing look bigger. That bugs me too. I always liked the bridge from star trek the next generation cause it was so well lit. 10 forward and engineering always felt slightly dark but not the dark cave we saw in the TNG movies and Star Trek discovery. Did you notice how dark The bridge of the ncc-1701d was during Star Trek Generations? It was supposed to be the same bridge bt you wouden't know it. The lights were even red shifted which is hard to focus on.

Its like they went from the star ship look to submarine look.

In one of the TNG Blueray extras season9, the Cast & Directors say they always wantted it darker, but the studio excecs wantted the bridge flood lit (washed out), slowly over seasons the directors lowered the light levels.

Just turn off the lights and absorb.

Brighter lights were a better choice for deepless NTSC.
