Escape from the Klingons a setup?

I have a feeling the random Starfleet guy Lorca rescued is a plant. He's either been brainwashed, someone he cares about is being held hostage, or he's a surgically altered Klingon. I think they figured a ship's captain probably wouldn't know the technical details of exactly how a new prototype drive unit worked, so they put someone on board his ship to find out and later escape back to them. Or maybe even disable Discovery's defenses so the Klingons can capture it. What does everyone think - was the escape a little too convenient?
