Reminded me of Voyager 'Threshold' S2E15 where they reached the warp 10 barrier and went through a phase of hyper-evolution in which they genetically mutated. Sort of like what happened to the crew of the more advanced sister ship USS Glenn except they're all dead and mangled like Dead Space monsters.
