S1 E1 : question about the end

So under pressure by her girl, Franco's goes out to see who is getting assaulted, see the girl with her pimp then wait in the hallway.

Not sure if he backed off because he did not/could not intervene against criminals or just because he was pretty sure the pimp would not do any more harm to the prostitute.

Then in the hallway, he starts walking back to the his room when he sees the pimp coming, opens his door but suddenly stops while he catches his girl eyes. No idea why he would stop since there was nothing more he could do.
