Hopefully the Academy recognizes this film

A week ago, I noticed the film was predicted by many publications as a Oscar contender for Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress. This week, I see that Jenkins has moved up to the top 5 of Best Director. The reviews at TIFF were glowing and its has 8 out 8 positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, scoring 100% both there and on Metacritic.

These are all very good signs.

Incredible, the reviews keep getting better and better

In reading a few of the reviews, most are very positive but I also paid attention to the criticisms within those positive reviews. A frequent criticism that the film's second and third act are damaged by Mahershala Ali's absence. From what I read, critics praise it overall and find it to be a "necessary" film but also feel that while very good, its not a "masterpiece." I guess I'll have to see for myself.

Boo! A Madea Halloween (2016) will be in the top 3 box office, Moonlight won't.

Doesn't matter that (meta) critics give it 97, the public doesn't care for SJW movies. Will flop harder than Birth of a Nation.

reply

Sure. But 20 years from now, no one will remember Boo! A Madea Halloween and it will present no new cinematic, personal or cultural values. Moonlight and The Birth of a Nation have a far greater chance of presenting a benchmark for those to follow.

Save the "SJW" for your political forums. But in regard to what the public cares for, its mostly stupidity distilled in the most simplistic form, which is why they don't determine public policy nor pose even the slightest chance to do so.
