At Least They Didn't Pull the "Bi" Card

SPOILER ALERT!!!

Enjoyed this film immensely, and was very happy to see some genuine truth in the script,
rather than PC nonsense regarding Lady Bird's first boyfriend.

When she caught him kissing another boy in the bathroom stall, Gerwig was wise enough
to simply write the character as WHO HE IS: GAY...you know, those people who kiss and
are attracted to the same gender. We didn't have to deal with all the (yawn-inducing)
"Well, actually, I'm bi...But I'm equally attracted to girls, too." (Uh-huh).

When Ladybird finally confronts him, she simply says, "You're GAY." And he cries and
confesses it and how afraid he is. It's a beautifully written and acted scene, and shows
that Lady Bird isn't totally self-consumed. She embraces him, comforts him, and is
there for him. Great moment in the film because it's so uncomplicated and honest.
It almost plays from a movie or play written 40 years ago. Most indies today would've
pulled in the "bi" card. For this piece of truth alone, the film deserves praise.
