Why Princess Margaret had such small private funeral?
Margaret's coffin, draped in her personal standard, was taken from Kensington Palace to St James's Palace before her funeral. Then her mother, Queen-mother died just few weeks later and had big stage funeral like everyone else.
An estimated 200,000 people over three days filed past as she lay in state in Westminster Hall at the Palace of Westminster. Members of the household cavalry and other branches of the armed forces stood guard at the four corners of the catafalque. At one point, her four grandsons–Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and Viscount Linley–mounted the guard as a mark of respect, an honour similar to the Vigil of the Princes at the lying in state of King George V.
In London, more than a million people filled the area outside Westminster Abbey and along the 23-mile (37 km) route from central London to Elizabeth's final resting place in the King George VI Memorial Chapel beside her husband and younger daughter in St George's Chapel.
It feels like Margaret wasn't that much loved and respected by public and others. While Queen Mother was. And in people's mind she was party-princess, scandal-princess no one cared that much about. She was just there. Once she was young and hot and kept living in tabloids with her scandals - she was popular. And then she got older and everyone kinda forgot about her and stopped care. So when she died whole country didn't cry about it.
While Queen Mother had RESPECT for being with her husband and country during WW2.
I wonder if Princess Anne (sister of Charles) will die - will she have such small funeral like Margaret? And brothers of Charles? Is this what Spares are up to?
No wonder they didn't want to make such big giant funeral for Diana since she wasn't even working royal anymore and was ex-wife. They don't do big spectacles even for sister of Queen. But public's uproar forced them to give Diana funeral that is basically for high royals. Because Diana was big celebrity. share
