Disapointed by Episode 2... In The Beginning!

Princess Elizabeth and her Husband are reviewing the Chiefs after her speech. Philip says to one chief "I have one of those... I have another one! Did you steal it?" And in the same scene, he states "That is a nice hat." To this Princess Elizabeth remarks "It is a crown, not a hat."

Come on! The real Philip could not have been THAT stupid! He has lived in a ROYAL house, was he not from the Greek Royal family? So he is used to the pomp and ceremony. And would he and the princess NOT have been briefed on protocol regarding that visit? What the chiefs would be wearing and why?

And whether those chiefs had achieved on their lives?

Do not want to continue watching after this, but will force me to do so...

Prince Philip visited a cheese factory here in Australia and refused to wear a hair net as Prince Charles was earlier criticized for wearing one. So the whole day's production had to be scrapped because Phil refused to wear a hair net!

I don't know if he is necessarily stupid but he does lack a filter https://www.womanandhome.com/life/news-entertainment/prince-philip-quotes-63435/

He was also in the Navy and grew up at a time when people were less sensitive so he just speaks his mind.

I did find though that this season was a little "meh" overall. Wait till you get to the ep with the astronauts to really cringe over Phil.

Two of my other faves from Phil

16. "If you stay here much longer, you'll all be slitty-eyed." (to British students in China, during the 1986 state visit).

17 - "Your country is one of the most notorious centres of trading in endangered species in the world." (in Thailand, in 1991, after accepting a conservation award).

So even if he did not say what the show portrays him to have said, are you saying the real Prince Phillip could have?

I gather he could have said so in real life after reading your link to the Woman and Home article...

reply

Yeah I would definitely believe that he could have said that.

In the second link there is a quote about him asking a female sea cadet if she works in a strip club when she tells him she works at a night club! Article here https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1257278/Prince-Philip-asks-Navy-cadet-Elizabeth-Rendle-works-strip-club.html

He just doesn't care.

I just read that second link... Even if in the real occasion he did not say that to the Chief, the script writer must have thought it was true at some point he may have said to Princess Elizabeth, or Queen Elizabeth something about "the hat she was wearing." Enough to get royal darts from her eyes...
